  General FAQs

1) Are there any benefits offered to International Students While studying in UK?

Apart from being a guest of UK, there 2 sources of benefit are:

NHS: All international students staying in UK for the purpose of education for 6 months or more qualify will for free health care through the National Health Service.

National Union of Students: Loads of discounts are negotiated on behalf of their student members on things like books, stationery, food, clothes, travel and entertainment. All students are entitled to free NUS membership.

2) Is there any discrimination towards Indian students?

The rich cultural heritage of UK has been built on many centuries of relationship with India, which gives a perfect understanding of Indian cultural values and customs. Added to this UK is the favorite destination for students from all around the world; with students from various nationalities coming into the UK the law is very stringent in ensuring that no one adapts any sort of discriminatory activities.

3) Do all Universities provide accommodation?

Accommodation is guaranteed for all international students in almost all universities. For more information please check the Universities websites.

4) Should I take University accommodation or private accommodation?

It depends on your budget and other aspects, how ever it is better to take University accommodation as a new student you won't have to hunt much for accommodation won’t have to worry about landlords & contracts, no extra bills and mostly university accommodations are close in proximity to the place of study. But, university accommodation also has its own limitations the accommodation is slightly expensive, less space, limits things you do (throw parties and make noise) etc.

5) How can I know the location and regions of the Universities in UK?

Maps of all UK universities and colleges that provide higher education are available on the websites of the Higher Education Research Opportunities in the United Kingdom (HERO); Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) and the University of Wolver Hampton. Hero’s website also includes a breakdown of universities by region.

6) What is the difference between a university and a college (higher education) in UK?

Institutions have to meet certain criteria to be awarded the title "university". These are assessed by the Quality Assurance Agency on behalf of the Privy Council. The Privy Council is responsible, under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992, for approving the use of the word 'university' (including 'University College') in the title of a higher education institution.
