US Education system is unique in its own way from Indian and British education system. It is flexible and convenient system where students can pursue education as per their interests. There are many choices of courses from which student can choose their own. Unlike India institutions in USA are private, there is no central body to operate, and Universities can design and conduct their own programs and can set their own standards. However USA is known for best education in the world, where 103 universities of USA are at top 200 world’s best universities.

Schooling in US begins with Nursery than primary and secondary. Education from first grade to sixth grade is called primary from seventh to 12th is called secondary education, in which seventh to ninth is Junior High school and tenth to 12th is senior high school. Students in US have choice of different schools to study such as Public schools, Private schools and Home schools. Over 85% of adults in US have completed their High school education. These 12 years education is mandatory to get admission in any graduate college in US, but not necessarily from US, overseas students also can opt for graduation, those who have completed 12 years of primary and high school education.

After completing the schooling part students will join Colleges or Universities as per their choices. They have different kinds of colleges to choose from they are as follows

Associate Degree:

This degree is offered by Trade / Vocational / Technical Schools and the community colleges, junior colleges, business colleges, some bachelor's degree -granting colleges & universities. These are mostly private, for-profit schools and have open admission. Duration of these programs is 2 years, later can be transferred and articulation programs with four-year universities, hence it is called Associate Degree. These programs are designed to teach job specific skills such as accounting, auto maintenance, secretarial skills, etc. These programs are undertaken to make education inexpensive for first 2 years as the fees of these institutions are comparatively low with other kind of institutions. These institutions seek TOFEL and SAT Scores for admission of International students along with good percentage in 12th.

Bachelors Degree:

This is similar to the professional under graduation program in India which has the duration of 4 years. In this level US colleges/Universities offer hundreds of specializations from which students can choose as per their interests. Overseas students from developed nations prefer to start their education in USA from this level. International students will have to under take SAT or TOFEL/IELTS exams for admissions into these universities.

Graduate Degree Programs:

Graduate degree programs are similar to Post Graduation programs in India. In this program students can opt for specializations such as Master of Arts (MA), the Master of Fine Arts (MFA), the Master of Business Administration (MBA), the Master of Science (MS) and the Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), among others. Students who have already received their first higher education diploma are eligible to apply to graduate programs but the students from India need to have 16 years of formal education, some universities may accept 15 years education but it is advised to complete 16 years education by undertaking bridge courses or diploma courses to get eligible for good universities. Duration of these programs may range from 1 year to 2 years depending on university and course. Students will have to appear for GMAT /GRE or TOFEL/IELTS according to the requirement of universities and programs they choose.

Doctorate Programs:

Doctoral level programs are usually known as Ph.D. admission into theses programs is possible after completing Masters Degree. The duration of programs usually range from 3 years to 6 years depending on university and field of university. Students will have to submit their research report.
